Blisters - Causes And Treatment

By ronnish at 2009-12-16 04:32:40
The logic behind handling the genital herpes blister with care is just very simple. Break it and the infection will transfer to its adjacent areas where the fluid coming from inside the blister had its way. Because of the highly contagious and infectious behavior of this virus, the part of the skin where the fluid from the blister passes will be easily infected.

Blisters tend to break out on the area of skin where there are frequent rubbing. In response to this rubbing, a fluid filled layer called blister will be developed on the skin. Blisters are filled with a clear liquid called serum. Blood may also form inside the blisters if the blisters are caused by sub dermal injury. This form of blisters often happens when the skin is harshly pinched, crushed, or squeezed. Blisters often formed when the area of the skin receives too much pressure. Blisters can happen on the feet when wearing tight shoes. Blisters on hands usually formed when the skin is rubbed constantly and intensely over a long period of time. Blisters can also occur as a result of an illness such as chickenpox, herpes and pemphigus.

Blisters are usually caused due to friction between your skin and socks. Hence, the choice of good socks is one of the most important things in avoiding blisters. Wear light, synthetic socks next to your skin. Be sure this sock fits snugly and has no bulky seams. Nowadays socks are made from variety of modern materials including lycra and polyester which not only offer comfort to your feet but also wick away sweat quickly.

Blisters are caused by physical irritation, chemical irritation, and extreme heat and cold. Physical irritation refers to friction when the skin is rubbed vigorously for a period of time. Foot blisters may develop if wearing tight shoes that are uncomfortable for the feet. Blisters may also form as a result of coming in contact with a chemical irritant such as vesicant. Blisters may also be produced by exposure to severe heat or cold.

The symptoms of blisters are swelling filled with fluid on the surface of the skin. Some blisters are not painful while others are sensitive to pressure and painful. Blisters can be singly or in group of clusters. Blood blisters have darker color and are more painful that other types of blisters. Blisters that are infected will have yellow pus. Infected blisters are painful when you attempt to touch them.

The treatment of sore throat will vary according to the cause. Sore throats are usually mild and can be treated at home with over-the-counter remedies available from your local pharmacy. They usually get better on their own, in 3-7 days. It is extra rare for antibiotics to be needed. This is only the case when the sore throat is the result of a serious bacterial infection.

There is a very effective treatment available for dermatitis herpetiformis. A gluten-free diet is very difficult to achieve; however, limiting intake of wheat, barley, or rye products can lessen the symptoms. Dapsone can be associated with severe hematologic (blood) disturbances and must be closely monitored. However, strict long-term avoidance of dietary gluten has been shown to reduce the dose of dapsone required to control the disease and may even eliminate the need for medication. In addition, a gluten-free diet may reduce the risk of gastrointestinal lymphoma. Other, less effective treatments for DH include colchicine, cyclosporine, azathioprine, and prednisone. UV light may provide some symptomatic relief. Cyclosporine should be used with caution in patients with DH because of a potential increase in the risk of developing intestinal lymphomas. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs may exacerbate DH; however, ibuprofen appears to be safe.
