Acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) is a disease caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). HIV and AIDS attack the immune system and often destroy its effectiveness.

AIDS patients may develop certain kinds of cancer, as well as serious infections in the lungs, skin or digestive or central nervous system. It is caused by a virus known as HIV. When it enters into the blood stream, it may kill off certain white blood cells which normally act to fight off germs.
